Viriditas Cocina Vegana
Our favorite place to eat in Oaxaca, we typically ordered their menú del día for lunch daily. Inspired by a different global cuisine each day, it includes an appetizer, main, a dessert, and tea or agua del día. All this, and it only costs 115 pesos (under $7 USD). Read our post.
Nanita
In the artsy Jalatlaco barrio, Nanita is a cozy and fully vegan spot, and Drew and Eduardo (its creators) are absolutely lovely people. Our favorite dishes were the vegan mac and cheese, the breakfast burrito with chickpea egg, and their delicious homemade vegan ice cream.
Herbivora
A fully vegan taco place, Herbivora is a perfect spot for a quick bite to eat. Our favorite tacos were the alambre (topped with a pumpkin flower), the pastor (grilled oyster mushrooms and pineapple), and the chile relleno. Read about their vegan tamale cooking class.
Citronella
With a delicious vegan pozole, a traditional Oaxacan soup, Citronella quickly became one of our favorite cafes. We also recommend their tlayuda, another Oaxacan treat. Citronella is fully vegan, and a short walk from Co404.
Aguacate
We only went here once, but really enjoyed our meal: their pita with falafel and beetroot hummus. It's a bit pricier than other spots, but the food is good. Aguacate is fully vegetarian and has many vegan options.
Boulenc
With everyone at Co404 raving about Boulenc, we had to give it a try. They only have one vegan option, a grilled mushroom bánh mì with homemade pickles. It was indeed as great as everyone claimed, and we regret only trying it toward the end of our stay.
Etnofood
A fully vegan restaurant, Etnofood also offers a popular vegan cooking class. With a focus on sustainability and social impact, they're a great business to support. Read about their vegan mole cooking class.
Los Muchitos Comida Vegana
This fully vegan spot was a bit of a further walk from where we stayed, but it's very affordable and has so many options. Their menú del día is excellent value, but they also have a bunch of veganized Western options like burgers and hotdogs.
La Cosecha Organic Market
This organic market was a favorite spot of ours for a cheap brunch. With loads of colorful juices and many vegan options, it has a really pleasant and creative ambiance.
La Matatena
For a pizza, La Matatena is a great spot. They have vegan cheese, and their pesto is also naturally vegan as well.
La Selva de los Gatos
This fully vegan cat café is the perfect spot if you're looking to spend some time around adorable kittens. They do a great iced matcha horchata latte.
Muss Café
With a very atmospheric courtyard, Muss Café is a nice place to work from and spend a few hours. While they don't have an abundance of vegan options, we enjoyed the setting quite a lot.
Sahi Matcha
A friend of ours introduced us to Sahi Matcha, and it was the best matcha we have ever had. They have various plant-based milk options, and you can also get fresh mango or strawberry purée added in. We most enjoyed the matcha with mango and oat milk combo.
Casa Honorio
In San José del Pacifico and directly onsite at Bostel Rancho Viejo, Casa Honorio has some excellent vegan options. We enjoyed their roasted cauliflower in mole and their red pozole.
Tatsu
In San José del Pacifico, Tatsu is a great Asian fusion spot with vegan ramen, vegan sushi, and vegan sweet and sour broccoli with rice.
