The Elysian is a utopian garden where we can study philosophy and debate politics and rethink capitalism and enjoy contemplative leisure and be part of a new enlightenment. It’s a place where we can think through a more beautiful future through essays and literature and discourse.
NEC's view
Elle Griffin’s The Elysian is one of the more interesting independent media projects we’ve been following. We're intrigued by Elle's experiments outside of traditional media structures.
Being drawn to cooperative infrastructures and worker ownership ourselves, we admire her approach to building an independent publication that doubles as a test site for alternative economies. Beyond The Elysian, she has crowdfunded her forthcoming book, We Should Own the Economy, where those who invest in the project also become co-owners.
For us, this is an inspiring model—one that treats publishing not just as output but as a shared system, where readers and supporters help shape the work and hold real stake in it.
